As a sub supplier of water treatment to a Danish company, EUROWATER is to ensure cooling and air humidity at Facebook's new data centre in Luleå, Sweden. The centre will become one of the world's most high-tech and energy efficient of its kind.

 

With more than 850 million users across the world, the internet based social network Facebook manages huge amounts of data. So far, this has been done at data centres in the USA. The new data centre is being placed in Luleå in Sweden, where the Danish company will supply equipment for cooling and adding air humidity.

 

During the first phase, a system capable of distributing 13,000 litres of water per hour is needed. For this purpose demineralized water is required in order to ensure an efficient and reliable colling and humidification at the data centre. The water treatment solution from EUROWATER, consists of

  • activated carbon filtration
  • softening
  • reverse osmosis (RO)

The capacity is 3 x 9 m³/h which is more than needed. Due to the importance of a continous colling effect and a constant humidity, Facebook wanted extra high safety in the water supply.

In order to reduce local installation time, a pre-installation with interconnecting pipe systems were done in EUROWATER's production facilities in Denmark. After successful tests, all units and parts were marked, packed and shipped to the installation site in Sweden. EUROWATER is responsible for the local installation as well as the start-up of the equipment.
